Origin / Origine :
This bass does not wear an original label or brand. It is therefore not possible to determine with full certitude its maker.
Typical for Mirecourt from that period ,is that makers often provided some of their instruments by their collegeas when needed. Therefore, we often find identical instruments with a different finish and label.
This type of bass is often called Solo bass or Nany model after the famous solo-player Edouard Nany.
In the early 20th century, this model was used by nearly every French maker. This model has also been used by some German makers, and a lot of older basses have been ”recut” to match closer these outlines and size.
This model is very well suited for solo-playing and chamber music.
Because of its limited size, this instrument is very easy to play and of easy acces to the highest register.
Pupils and followers of the François Rabbath school, will particulary appreciate this type of instrument.
General condition / Etat général :
This double bass is produced with a set of fin quality spruce and figured maple, the workmanship is from the highest level.
It is made with ”violin-shaped” corners instead of the more ordinary viola corners, wich gives it a more elegant appearance.
I grafted a new neck to this bass, giving it more overstand and less tension.
This caused the instrument to vibrate more freely, while it is even more accesible on its highest register.
A first quality ebony fingerbaord as well as a full set-up have been added.
This bass is in an exceptionnal state of conservation, all vital parts, as well as the varnish being original.
The front has been restored in our workshop.
This bass is extremely easy to play and has a rather big sound for an instrument of those relatively small proportions.
