Origin / Origine :
This double bass is neither signed nor labeled. It is a typical early 20th century German work. This kind of instrument was usually made by several pairs of hands. Each one made a part of the instrument, and the different parts were then assembled in a large workshop. The lutherie of this instrument is also reminiscent of the lutherie of Schönbach in Austria.
The resonance chamber of this double bass is quite large, which makes it less suitable for soloists. On the other hand it has deep bass, and in pizzicato it has a remarkable “sustain”.
General condition / Etat général :
This double bass has been completely restored. It has lost some of its originality, but is in perfect condition.
